discoveryisland.ca launched originally in 2004 and has since grown quite a bit, discoveryisland.ca focuses on Discovery Island in the chain of islands off of Oak Bay that also includes Chatham Island a first nations reserve, in addition to several islands that have been established as ecological reserves, and two separate private islands with radio towers. discoveryisland.ca is the largest website on Discovery Island complete with a archive of photos and history that has been hardly seen or documented anywhere else. discoveryisland.ca is solely run by me a amateur historian and a person who all his life has been visiting discovery and have grown to know it over time, I have also spent much time in archives, libraries and other ways to research discovery. I do not profit from discoveryisland.ca in any way, what little revenue comes from the ads goes directly to paying for the costs of running this website and research costs. I initially started this website to catalog the history of Discovery Island from past to present, as there was a lack of documents, literature, photos, videos or any cataloging of a detailed history of discovery in one spot. I have also grown a somewhat large personal collection of photos, various documents, newspaper clippings and more which I will gradually continue to publish on discoveryisland.ca. discoveryisland.ca also tries to promote the preservation of Discovery Island. discoveryisland.ca also sometimes branches out into other related topics such as the de-staffing of lighthouses. discoveryisland.ca will continue to grow as I collect more historical information, documents, photos, videos and more.
