The federal government after a long hiatus of de-staffing lighthouses has now announced plans to de-staff the Trial Island lighthouse near Discovery Island as well as many more lighthouses along the BC coast and possibly all lighthouses up and down the coast, lighthouse keepers are instrumental to maritime safety from assisting with rescues, detailed forecasting, park wardens, firefighting and so much more, not to mention maintaining these historical beacons of hope.
